Oy Vey!

So...bad news. I have no idea what to write. This blog is for a class so I had to have five posts. I only had 4. However, I did have two REALLY cool posts I wanted to do. They both turned out to be fails unfortunately.

The first one was gonna be the ODU vs. VCU basketball game. I had it planned I was gonna go to the game, we were gonna win, and it was gonna be an epic blog of me boasting about the ODU/VCU rivalry. Well yeah...now you know why THAT failed. We lost. I even left early because I was kind of upset. I thought we were really good and that we would have this is the bag. Turns out, I was wrong. We should definitely stick to football (which we lost that game too this weekend! Total bummer).

My second post was gonna be about my The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2 experience. I've been waiting for this moment ever since I read all four books in 3 months time. My ex-best friend turned me onto it. I stayed at her house after the first movie came out on DVD. I fell in love, borrowed all her books, and read all four the rest of the summer. I have this thing where I don't go see the movie when it first comes out because I hate crowds, but now that everyone has seen it (but me!) they all want to tell me the story line and it's making me mad. So I was gonna go see it today with my cousin, but that was obviously a fail. She had to go do something else so now we're going next weekend and I have to put up with another week of people trying to tell me the story line!

Anyway, when I started writing this blog, I didn't realized I would write about what I was gonna write about. I sorta just thought I would wing it...which I guess I kinda did regardless. Whatever the case, I wrote my fifth post and I have other assignments to finish now. Adiós amigos!

To be or not to be...(with a roommate)

So living the college life usually comes with living dorms. Living in dorms comes with a roommate. A roommate, depending on the situation (whether you knew them before or just met), can possibly lead to problems and sometimes these problems become HUGE. Sometimes it's not even the roommate, but your suitemates that cause problems. Let's just say...I have a little of both.

My roommate was SO cool when we first made contact. It was through emails and Facebook. We kind of were getting to know each, finding out who was bringing what, etc. My first impression when we met was 'Hell yeah! This is gonna be awesome! We're completely on the same page!' During the first week of classes, however, I was feeling more along the lines of  'She's crazy. I hate her. I wanna go home.' and I did. I went home. My mom works in VA Beach so it was no big deal. I came back Monday and...I still pretty much hated her. I think I hated her a little more cause my stuff started going missing, my food was being eaten, my sodas were gone, the room was messy, it smelled weird, there was a LONG list of reasons of why I didn't wanna be there. Oh, and did I mention she had her boyfriend and his friend stay over the second week?! Yeah and the 3rd week ANOTHER friend stayed the weekend! Now we're okay. We talk, we're friendly, I'm selling her my textbook, but that's about it. But now...she's a freaking mess. Her clothes are everywhere sometimes and her towels are usually balled up on her bed which leads to the sour smell. Yes, I have bought so many air fresheners to get rid of 'The Smell.'

But it's not just her. My suitemate is just as bad sometimes when it comes to the bathroom. I clean the bathroom. Like I am the ONLY one who cleans the bathroom. Which is crazy cause you would think a bunch of girls living together would be super clean, right? NO! I clean the bathroom and I take out the bathroom's trash and if I don't do it...NO ONE will. It will just sit there gathering dust and conjuring up this God awful smell. It's way gross so I clean.

Everyday I count the days it's gets closer to a break so I can GO HOME and be away from these crazy, non-cleaning, smelly girls!

High School Blues

Last week, during Thanksgiving Break, I visited my old high school. (GO DUKES!) I must say I enjoyed being there again...getting up early, however, I absolutely hated! I went there for a reason though. I didn't just go home and say 'hey! I think I'm gonna visit my old school today!' No. I actually gave a presentation on Dance and Theatre History! Which makes sense because I'm officially a dance minor!

Going there made me realize I actually sort of miss being there with all my friends. Things in ol' WHS have changed dramatically though. For one thing, they now have iPads! YES! My technology UN SAVVY (not sure I said that right :/) school gave the entire student body iPads! I'm still shocked about that! Like my school was the one taking cell phones if it accidentally went off or suspending people for posting pictures of people on twitter and now they have iPads! I really don't get it. My old drama teacher (which was the reason I was there) was like they still expect teachers to take cell phones which doesn't make sense because they can still have their iPads out. Way to go, WHS.

So I gave this presentation or whatever and I also taught them some basic salsa steps. It was so much fun, however, by the time I got home (after 3 classes of standing and dancing) my feet were aching! The kids had fun too. I got asked so many questions about my college experience so far. Like how's your roommate, what's the sports like, how many papers have you had, and, of course, what are the parties like?! It was cool being able to tell my story (the little story I do have) and share it with everyone. I told them good, the bad, and the ugly! Haha

The students were...the same sort of. I kind of felt socially awkward when I went into the cafeteria because no one REALLY talked to me except these 2 guys I've been friends with forever. I want to say I felt like the new kid on the block. It was weird not walking down the halls and being with everyone as a student. It was also WAY awkward seeing all the new freshmen there. I guess I sort of expected the school to stay the way I left it, but people and things have to grow I guess.

A Birthday Election to Remember

So this is a late blog, but my birthday was ELECTION DAY! Exciting, right? I worked on my birthday. I worked at the ELECTION polls! Let me just say, presidential elections are THE craziest and they bring out the CRAZIEST people too. I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this past election. For one, I worked in my hometown and I live in a small town. People were dying to see Romney win and I must say their enthusiasm was hilarious for me to watch.

First off...I was keeping my birthday a secret from the workers at the poll. I like them and all, but I'd rather not be embarrassed with the singing of happy birthday. I think that song is horribly embarrassing. Last year for my birthday, I went to Ruby Tuesday's with some friends after a Friday night football game. My friends decided they wanted to tell our waiter it was my birthday and he decided to sing...like REALLY sing. I had to smile to keep from laughing in his face. Anyway, mom brought me lunch and ruined the birthday secret.

My day only got better when the people coming to vote started flipping out! Like one guy had an old voting card, one from before the '08 presidential election. The voting precincts have changed drastically since that election and NEW cards were sent out. Still, he brought the old one. Needless to say...his precinct had changed. He would've known if he looked at the new voting card. However, he shoved the old card in our faces insisting this was his voting place cause "it said so on the card." We told him like 50 times that he had an old card and the precincts had changed. Once he got that through his thick skull, he rudely asked where he was supposed to go then. We proceeded to tell him and he rudely yelled 'THAT'S TOO FAR! I'M NOT VOTING!' He threw his hands up and walked out the door. We all looked at each other utterly confused.

So birthday or election...November 6th was an overall crazy day.

Warning: Parental Discretion is Advised

This past weekend my family and I traveled to my Aunt's house near Doswell, Virginia to enjoy the festivities of October which is best known for its holiday Halloween.  Doswell is home to the amusment park Kings Dominion who was hosting their annual Halloween Haunt.  Upon entering the park you were given a normal map and a Escape Route (2012 Fright Guide).  Using the Fright Guide, together my family and I conquered Feary Tales, Cleaver Brothers Carnival, the Slaughter House, the Doll Factory, Necropolis, Medieval Macabre, PrimEvil, and The Lair.

We started off riding the Dominator (one of the newest Rollercoasters) and ending with trying to ride The Crypt (it experienced difficulties before we could ride). After getting out of the last line, darkness had already settled upon us. We just so happened to be right beside a scare zone called PrimEvil. PrimEvil is "set in a distant jungle and the inhabitants there have lived with one rule...eat or be eaten. In this cannibalism filled land you will get a chance to explore this long forgetten cursed village. Watch your step and steer clear of the locals - their idea of a great meal will be your living nightmare." Sounds pretty scary, right?  My sister who is 10 starting crying before the people even came up to us. My Aunt eventually took her and my little cousin to the car.

Next up was the haunted attraction called The Doll Factory which was "an abandoned toy factory [where] The Marionette Murderer is turning his victims into life-sized dolls. Surrounded by a decaying production line he is close to completing his collection. Tour his twisted workshop of death and disfigurement as he searches for his next victim, with any luck you will make it out alive." So this was pretty creepy. The girls playing the dolls were actually kinda of cute in an abnormal sort of way. To make a long story short, we accidentally ran into this pregnant lady (we didn't know she was pregnant before and she shouldn't have been in there in the first place) and my cousin pulled this guy's hood. Funny stuff.

We went to several other scare zones including The Lair ("forced from their ancestral home this small clan of vampires has taken refuge in the dark. The vampires have been without blood for far too long.") which I did not enter, Cleaver Brothers Carnival ("The Ceaver Brothers have set up their midway and invite you to experience a carnival like no other. Enter a world where extraordinary comes to life and your worst nightmares will seem like a pleasant dream.") and I hate clowns by the way, Necropolis ("The once peacful spirits that resided in this cemetery have been dragged out of their slumber and forced to walk the earth once again. The deceased are searching for the person that woke them...they are searching for revenge.") which I ran out of because a guy chased me, and Feary Tales ("Jack & Jill...Hansel & Gretel...Little Dead Riding Hood...Take a walk through our twisted nursery and see the other side of your childhood friends. Go beyond the dead time stories and see what happened when they lived unhappily ever after.") which was also kind of "cute" and scary at the same time.

We only went to two othe haunted attractions. I did not enter the Slaughter House after much contemplation. I just wasn't up for it. The Slaughter House was described as "Dominion Meat Works has been churning out some of the best meat in Virginia for years. Join us for a one of a kind factory tour to learn how your favorite foods make it on your table." I did, however, go into Medieval Macabre ("as plague ravages the land, sending millions to a hideous demise...survivors seek vengeance for the deaths of their loved ones. Consumed with hatred, they mutilate the innocent as they search for someone to blame. The graveyards are full, but there is always room for more.") and it took us about a hour to get through the line. I ended up running out of this one too because one guy followed my cousin and I through the whole maze.

So I ended up having a great weekend even though I was almost scared to death Saturday night. I enjoyed leaving campus and just having fun with my family for the whole weekend. My weekend was a success!
