High School Blues

Last week, during Thanksgiving Break, I visited my old high school. (GO DUKES!) I must say I enjoyed being there again...getting up early, however, I absolutely hated! I went there for a reason though. I didn't just go home and say 'hey! I think I'm gonna visit my old school today!' No. I actually gave a presentation on Dance and Theatre History! Which makes sense because I'm officially a dance minor!

Going there made me realize I actually sort of miss being there with all my friends. Things in ol' WHS have changed dramatically though. For one thing, they now have iPads! YES! My technology UN SAVVY (not sure I said that right :/) school gave the entire student body iPads! I'm still shocked about that! Like my school was the one taking cell phones if it accidentally went off or suspending people for posting pictures of people on twitter and now they have iPads! I really don't get it. My old drama teacher (which was the reason I was there) was like they still expect teachers to take cell phones which doesn't make sense because they can still have their iPads out. Way to go, WHS.

So I gave this presentation or whatever and I also taught them some basic salsa steps. It was so much fun, however, by the time I got home (after 3 classes of standing and dancing) my feet were aching! The kids had fun too. I got asked so many questions about my college experience so far. Like how's your roommate, what's the sports like, how many papers have you had, and, of course, what are the parties like?! It was cool being able to tell my story (the little story I do have) and share it with everyone. I told them good, the bad, and the ugly! Haha

The students were...the same sort of. I kind of felt socially awkward when I went into the cafeteria because no one REALLY talked to me except these 2 guys I've been friends with forever. I want to say I felt like the new kid on the block. It was weird not walking down the halls and being with everyone as a student. It was also WAY awkward seeing all the new freshmen there. I guess I sort of expected the school to stay the way I left it, but people and things have to grow I guess.

A Birthday Election to Remember

So this is a late blog, but my birthday was ELECTION DAY! Exciting, right? I worked on my birthday. I worked at the ELECTION polls! Let me just say, presidential elections are THE craziest and they bring out the CRAZIEST people too. I can say I thoroughly enjoyed this past election. For one, I worked in my hometown and I live in a small town. People were dying to see Romney win and I must say their enthusiasm was hilarious for me to watch.

First off...I was keeping my birthday a secret from the workers at the poll. I like them and all, but I'd rather not be embarrassed with the singing of happy birthday. I think that song is horribly embarrassing. Last year for my birthday, I went to Ruby Tuesday's with some friends after a Friday night football game. My friends decided they wanted to tell our waiter it was my birthday and he decided to sing...like REALLY sing. I had to smile to keep from laughing in his face. Anyway, mom brought me lunch and ruined the birthday secret.

My day only got better when the people coming to vote started flipping out! Like one guy had an old voting card, one from before the '08 presidential election. The voting precincts have changed drastically since that election and NEW cards were sent out. Still, he brought the old one. Needless to say...his precinct had changed. He would've known if he looked at the new voting card. However, he shoved the old card in our faces insisting this was his voting place cause "it said so on the card." We told him like 50 times that he had an old card and the precincts had changed. Once he got that through his thick skull, he rudely asked where he was supposed to go then. We proceeded to tell him and he rudely yelled 'THAT'S TOO FAR! I'M NOT VOTING!' He threw his hands up and walked out the door. We all looked at each other utterly confused.

So birthday or election...November 6th was an overall crazy day.
